Todd went to his old house. The door was locked, but he knew how to get in. The bathroom window. It never did lock. He opened it and went inside. He turned on some lights, a radio and the tv. He wanted the thugs to think someone was home, when they came back. He left the front door open too. No sense in getting it busted down.
Suddenly he got a good idea. He picked up Luthers phone and grabbed a phone book. Guard dogs! He called one. "Hi. I'm going on vacation and I need a guard dog to stay in my house for a few days."
"Well, the way it works, is, we only drop them off for twelve hour shifts. They have to eat and use the bathroom and play a little too, you know. How about six pm to six am? And it's a hundred bucks per dog, per shift. How soon do you want to start?"
Todd got excited. "Right away. Let's start tonight and do it for three nights. Six o'clock would be fine. I wont be here, but the door will be unlocked. Just open the door and let him go in. I'll leave three hundred dollars under a flower pot."
"Ok. Sounds good." And that was that.
Todd smiled at the thought. He drove away and stashed his car in the woods. He walked back and found a nice tree to lean on, that was close enough to the house, that he could see it. He sat down and got comfortable. He unrolled a sleeping bag and pulled out a sandwich.
At about six pm, he saw the dog truck pull in the driveway. The driver got out and found the money under the flower pot. He knocked on the door and got no answer. Then he opened it and yelled inside. "Anybody home? I'm letting a vicious dog go in here. So, if anybody is home, you better speak up now."
Nobody answered. He pulled out a leash that was part pole. Obviously this guy was used to handling dogs that didn't even like him. He opened a small door an the side of the truck and stuck the leash in. It came out with a German Shepard on it. He looked happy to get out. He walked him to the front door and told him to "sick-em" as he let him go, into the house. Todd heard the dog bark two times as he went running in.
He smiled at the thought of those thugs finding the dog. He felt sorry for the dog, too. It will probably get killed, he thought. But, better him than me.
About an hour later, Luther pulled up in the driveway. Todd jumped to his feet and ran over there. "Luther! Don't go in. I put a vicious guard dog in there. I thought you wasn't coming back for a few days."
Luther snapped his fingers. "Damn. I wanted to get a few things. Betty and me need some clothes and stuff."
"Well, maybe we can do it." Todd reasoned. "You go open the bathroom window and get his attention. I'll sneak in and close the bathroom door on him."
"O...K." Luther said, hesitating. Then he went by the bathroom window.
Todd snuck in the front door as soon as he heard the dog barking. He quietly ran in and closed the bathroom door.
"Piece of cake. Come on in Luther." He yelled.
Luther came in and started packing some things. He took clothes and some food. "Thanks for all this, Todd. I hope you know what you're doing."
"I'll be alright." He assured him. "You just take care of Betty and don't come back here for at least a few days. I made a deal for the dog, for three nights, from six pm to six am."
The dog was barking and scratching the bathroom door. "He's gonna tear my door up. Let's get out of here. Hey, how are we gonna get him out?"
"I guess I didn't think of that." Todd realized. "Maybe we can try the same thing in reverse. You go by the window again."
   "Ok." And he did.
Todd waited until he heard the dog barking, then he barely turned the doorknob, so that the slightest bump would open it. Then he ran out and closed the front door.
"Ok, I'm out." He said to Luther.
Luther closed the window and they left. Luther went to Chicago and Todd went back to his tree.
